About the Institute of AI

We bring the best placed legislators together to understand the impact of Artificial Intelligence and the regulatory approaches being taken across the world. We do this by hosting roundtables with legislators and by analysing global trends in AI regulation and sharing this with our network.

Our Leadership Team

Darren Jones MP

Darren is a British Member of Parliament and is recognised as a leading legislator on the issue of technology policy. He chairs the House of Commons Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee and sits on the Science & Technology Select Committee. He is also the Vice Chair (International) of the All Party Parliamentary Group on AI and is a Parliamentary Champion at the OECD's AI Observatory. He previously led a Parliamentary Commission on Technology Ethics and is a technology and data privacy lawyer by training. Darren is our founder and chairman.

Emma Wright

Emma is a technology lawyer leading the telecoms, digital infrastructure and cybersecurity teams at London based law firm Kemp Little LLP. She has frequently been noted as one of the UK's leading women in technology and has spoken internationally on global trends in Artificial Intelligence regulation. Emma has worked across Europe, the United States, Africa and India. She is a Director of the Institute's operating company and acts as the Institute's legal counsel.

Professor Luciano Floridi

Luciano is a Professor of Philosophy and Ethics of Information at the University of Oxford, where he is also the Director of the Digital Ethics Lab. Respected across academia and industry, Luciano plays a global role in understanding the ethical approaches associated with the adoption of Artificial Intelligence. Luciano has chaired expert advisory panels for the European Commission and is currently a member of the EU’s Data Ethics Advisory Group. Luciano is an advisor on the Institute's leadership team.

Fran O'Leary

Fran is a communications specialist and former journalist and civil servant. As a co-founder at Lodestone Communications, she had led the secretariat service to the UK Parliament Internet Communications and Technology Forum for half a decade. She has advised a wide range of international organisations on communications and is a member of the PRCA Public Affairs Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the PRCA LGBTQ+ Committee. Fran is part of the founding leadership team at the Institute and acts as its communications advisor.
